Perfect for summer gatherings, these individual trifles combine vibrant flavors and textures in a visually stunning presentation, making every bite a delightful celebration of seasonal fruit and sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 1 to 2 cups fresh mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)

Cream Layers

  • 1 cup vanilla pudding or custard
  • 1 cup whipped cream

Cake

  • 1 cup angel food cake or sponge cake, cut into small cubes

Sweeteners & Garnish

  • Honey or powdered sugar, to drizzle or sprinkle
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Berries: Wash the mixed berries gently and pat them dry. Hull and slice strawberries into bite-sized pieces to keep layers uniform and easy to eat.
  2. Cut the Cake: Cut the angel food or sponge cake into small cubes that fit nicely into serving cups, creating a soft base and texture for the trifle.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: Start with a layer of cake cubes at the bottom of each cup, then add a generous spoonful of vanilla pudding or custard. Follow with a handful of mixed berries and a dollop of whipped cream. Repeat these layers until the cup is filled, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  4. Add Sweetness and Garnish: Drizzle honey lightly or sprinkle powdered sugar over the top whipped cream layer. Garnish each cup with fresh mint leaves for a refreshing aroma and elegant appearance.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe berries for maximum flavor and juiciness.
  • Chill the assembled cups in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
  • When layering, handle berries and cake gently to maintain a light texture.
  • Choose light cakes like angel food or sponge cake to prevent sogginess.
  • Adjust honey or sugar amounts based on the tartness of your berries.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; do not freeze.
  • Best enjoyed cold or at room temperature; letting chilled cups sit out briefly softens the cream.
