Lipton Onion Potatoes

Lipton Onion Potatoes are a quick, comforting, and flavorful side dish combining tender potatoes with the savory richness of Lipton onion soup mix. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect for weeknight dinners or gatherings, offering a warm, homey taste with minimal ingredients and fuss.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes and Seasoning

  • 2 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, washed, peeled (optional), and cut into even cubes or wedges
  • 1 packet Lipton Onion Soup Mix (1 ounce)
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted, or olive oil

Optional Additions

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream (optional, for serving)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Wash, peel if desired, and cut the potatoes into evenly sized cubes or wedges to ensure even cooking and good flavor absorption.
  2. Season the Potatoes: In a large mixing bowl, toss the potato pieces with Lipton onion soup mix and melted butter or olive oil, making sure each piece is fully coated with the seasoning blend.
  3. Cook the Potatoes: Spread the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet or casserole dish. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 25 minutes, flipping halfway through to achieve a crisp, golden exterior and tender inside.
  4. Add Cheese and Extras: Once the potatoes are tender, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted. If desired, swirl in sour cream and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Cut potatoes evenly for consistent cooking.
  • Melt butter before mixing for even seasoning distribution.
  • Arrange potatoes in a single layer to achieve crispy edges rather than steaming.
  • Enhance flavor by adding garlic powder or paprika to the seasoning mix.
  • Check potatoes with a fork around 20 minutes to avoid overcooking.
  • Leftover potatoes can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen without cheese for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat leftovers in a 350°F oven for 10-15 minutes or in a skillet over medium heat to restore crispiness.
