Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature

Add-ins and Toppings

  • 12 Oreo cookies, crushed (mixed into batter)
  • Cream cheese or buttercream frosting (about 1 to 1.5 cups)
  • Extra mini Oreos for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tray with cupcake liners to ensure even baking and prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar to create a smooth, lump-free mixture.
  3. Cream Butter and Eggs: In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, blending well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract for added flavor.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined to keep the cupcakes tender.
  5. Fold in Crushed Oreos: Gently fold the crushed Oreo cookies into the batter, leaving some chunks intact for texture.
  6. Fill the Cupcake Liners and Bake: Spoon the batter into the lined muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Prepare the Frosting: While the cupcakes cool, whip up a creamy frosting by mixing softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and finely crushed Oreos until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Frost and Garnish: Once completely cooled, pipe or spread the frosting generously on each cupcake. Top with a mini Oreo or sprinkle extra cookie crumbs for decoration.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients (butter, eggs, milk) for a smoother batter and better rise.
  • Do not overmix the batter to avoid dense cupcakes.
  • Crush Oreos carefully, leaving some chunks for added texture.
  • Allow cupcakes to cool fully before frosting to prevent melting.
  • Use quality cocoa powder for deeper chocolate flavor.
