Pepperoni Pizza Grilled Cheese

Pepperoni Pizza Grilled Cheese

The Pepperoni Pizza Grilled Cheese is a comforting fusion of two classics, combining golden, crispy grilled bread with gooey mozzarella and provolone cheeses, spicy pepperoni, and a touch of marinara sauce. This quick and easy sandwich delivers layers of melty cheese and zesty pepperoni flavor, perfect for a cozy meal or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread & Butter

  • 2 slices sturdy bread (sourdough, Italian, or gluten-free bread)
  • Butter, softened (enough for spreading on both sides of the bread)

Cheeses

  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (approximately 28g)
  • 1/4 cup sliced provolone cheese (approximately 28g)

Fillings & Seasonings

  • 1012 slices pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons marinara sauce (thinly spread)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried oregano

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Lay out two slices of your chosen bread and evenly spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on one side of each slice to provide a subtle tomato base without overpowering the sandwich.
  2. Layer the Cheese and Pepperoni: On one bread slice, place a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese, then add provolone slices for extra richness. Next, layer the pepperoni slices evenly over the cheese so every bite has a spicy, savory flavor.
  3. Season and Top with Bread: Sprinkle Italian seasoning or oregano over the pepperoni, then place the second slice of bread on top, marinara side down, to complete the sandwich.
  4. Butter the Bread and Heat the Pan: Spread softened butter on the outside of both bread slices. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat to prepare for grilling.
  5. Grill the Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula for even melting. Flip carefully once the first side turns golden-brown, and continue cooking until the cheese inside is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve Warm: Remove the sandwich from heat and let it rest for a minute to firm up before slicing, preserving the melty layers for a perfect bite.

Notes

  • Use room-temperature butter for even spreading and perfect browning without burning.
  • Cook over medium or medium-low heat to ensure cheese melts fully without over-toasting the bread.
  • Press the sandwich gently while grilling to promote even contact and thorough melting.
  • Avoid overfilling the sandwich to prevent sogginess and difficulty in flipping.
  • A non-stick pan or cast iron skillet works best to achieve a crispy exterior without sticking.
